Description

The Government of Thailand has approved on July 29, 2014 the investment plan for rail transportation which includes the implementation of total 6 double track projects covering 887 kilometers with a construction budget of 127 billion baht. Improvements will result from doubling the track to be able to operate each direction independently as well as in form of straightening the alignment for higher operating speeds and additional overpasses, underpasses, traffic lights, etc. The overall strategy is to reduce travel times,  increase the capacity for passenger and freight transport as well as increase the safety.

The Hua Hin – Prachuap Khiri Khan Project is one of the six approved projects to be developed according to the strategy of the investment plan by a consultant group including Dorsch Consult Asia to do the feasibility study and detailed design for an approximate distance of 90km including 12 stations.

Hua Hin is a popular beach resort getaway for Bangkok residents. In 1921 the director of the state railway, Prince Purachatra, built the Railway Hotel close to the beach. King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) liked the place so much that he built a summer palace there which was later named Klai Kang Won ("far from worries").  At that time Hua Hin became the first and most popular beach resort in the country.

Hua Hin is located in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The province is on the coast at one of the narrowest stretches in Thailand, only 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the Burmese border. The area has large pineapple and coconut industries, in addition to being popular with tourists. Prachuap Khiri Khan town is 291 km south of Bangkok.
