Description

The cities of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are one of the fastest developing urban areas worldwide. A controlled´wastewater discharge and an appropriate treatment are of utmost importance for a sustainable development of the region. At present, approximately 1.8 million inhabitants are connected to the sewer system with a total length of 5300 km and 220 pumping stations. The Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC) commissioned Dorsch Consult Wasser und Umwelt GmbH (DCWU) with the updating and operation of the hydraulic models of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

The duration of the project is 18 months. The main objective of the project is to update the physical network components and loads of the hydraulic models. The physical network components are updated by comparing the model data to latest GIS data. The loads are updated considering the census data and the distribution of the population within the catchments In a final step, the results of a hydraulic simulation are compared to operational data received for the main pumping station. By comparing the water level in the wet wells and the volumes pumped, the population numbers upstream of the pumping station in question are further adjusted.

A knowledge transfer shall enable ADSSC to operate the hydraulic models as reliable planning tool supporting investment planning.
